Powerful, Time-saving Knowledge Right Now
I've taught numerous classes on picture books and have discovered that many writers don't have a basic understanding of this category of children's books. This often means that they have to do a lot of reworking and often start their stories over completely because the story they've written is actually not a picture book story.
Using published picture books as examples, you'll learn what a picture book is and is not, what makes this type of book unique among children's books, the variations of picture books and how language, rhythm, rhyme (in some books) and illustrations all play a crucial role in telling the story.
In short, easy-to-follow lessons, you'll explore picture books at your own pace, using real books along with exercises and downloads to hone your picture book eye.
This course is designed to provide that basic understanding for writers hoping to write children's picture books and anyone else who has been captivated by the fun and engaging lure of the picture book.
Thank you, Denise! Though I have far to travel still, I have a very good grounding!
"I think this class is invaluable to any writer embarking on the picture book adventure. Denise did a great job. It's obvious she put a lot of time into making this class work for all. I loved her picture book examples. They supported her lessons by helping to clarify important points. She presented information with clarity and professionalism. Denise comes across as calm and approachable. She shares her knowledge in a "friendly" style, and her expertise shines. Her style of teaching is so great for beginners, because she oozes understanding. Even though I was familiar with most of the content, I listened to the entire class in one afternoon. I still learned more. I left the experience realizing I need to read more picture books...to read as a writer. I would highly recommend this class to all aspiring picture book writers - beginning writers and experienced writers seeking a recharge!"
